Should Christians listen to only Christian music? Does the style make a difference? Should Christian musicians only produce Gospel music? ===================================================================== While some folks stress listening to Christian music ALONE ... "I listen to both kinds of music: Country and Western." *giggle* I do listen to country music ... and Christian, and classical, and even some pop/rock. Country music mentions God a lot (several times per hour on the radio) and reveres Him in most cases. It also tends to support honorable living and family values. When a country song is about adultury, the act is almost always noted as wrong and the situation is usually lamented by the offender -- The internal conflict is what fuels this type song. Country songs frequently stress the bad effects of alcohol consumption (poor judgement, regretable behavior, etc.). Now, I'm not saying that all country music is godly but the country music industry is very conservative, so heretical songs don't tend to get made or played. Unlike some of my friends, I do not feel the need to replace secular music with some Christian music of the same genera. I do listen to Christian music -- but mostly when I want to praise God, not just in the background. I don't want to become numb to its message. Having certain music for certain activities helps me get into the mood, not unlike the way some people like to kneel to pray. The association helps me "plug in" to a prayerful mindset. Sometimes secular music (and even anti-God music) can reveal a lot about the spiritual state of the artist. It helps us see the distorted view of the unbeliever. EXAMPLE: Depeche Mode has a song called Blasphemous Rumors ... expressing the artist's confusion about the way God acts.
